Who we are:
St. Francis Anglican is the traditional Anglican church
for the community of Blacksburg, Va. We are a Diocesan Mission of
the APA Diocese of the Eastern U.S. (DEUS). We
use the traditional Book of Common Prayer (1928) as the sole source
for our worship. A detailed schedule of our services is available
below.
St. Francis was founded in 1980 and is housed in one of the most
historic churches in Blacksburg.
We're located at 306 Progress St. on the corner of Wilson, one and
a half blocks north of the downtown fire and rescue squad station.
We're especially convenient to downtown and the
Virginia Tech
campus (a couple of blocks away), and easy to find by car. (Click
here for directions and a link to a
map.) We have plenty of on-street
parking with overflow available in an adjacent parking lot.
We invite you to join us on Sundays and Thursday evenings
for worship and fellowship, and to contact us with any questions
or pastoral needs.
How we serve our community:
We hold regular services of worship at St. Francis each
Sunday morning, beginning with the reading of Morning Prayer at
9:15 AM. Our main service of Holy Communion is held each
Sunday at 10 AM. We also hold Evening Prayer services each
Thursday evening at 6 PM.
Our members are very active in their communities and provide
outreach through their volunteer efforts. They support programs
such as the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry
and the
Radford - Fairlawn Daily Bread kitchen, among others. As a
church, St. Francis provides outreach through charitable donations
to community organizations such as the Montgomery County
Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP), and also to immediate
local needs as they arise through the Red Cross and other
agencies.
Our church building and Rutherfoord Hall (our Parish Hall)
are available for weddings or other services, and for any
suitable community gathering. The church seats 250, and Rutherfoord
Hall has two large and two small meeting rooms and a full kitchen
for your convenience.
We extend our generous thanks to Fr. Chip Sills,
Priest-in-Charge of St. Francis, Fr. Glenn Spencer, Dean of
the Virginias in the Diocese of the Eastern U.S., and Fr. William
Crites, former Visiting Priest of St. Francis, for their
service, inspiration, and assistance.
